THE BEACH HOUSE
The Beach House is, as its name suggests, situated right on the beach in the area of Beira known as Palmerias. It exists to minister to the church in Mozambique and world-wide, by providing safe, clean, budget priced accommodation for Christian workers irrespective of denominational affiliation or nationality. This ministry began over twenty years ago, when Ron and Dorothy Davies saw it as an extension of the ministry of their English charity Lifeline (now Global Literature Lifeline). When they first came to Beira the house was in serious danger of collapsing into the sea, and without their vision the transformation would probably have never taken place.

Hard work by a number of willing volunteers turned that vision into reality. A new ring beam was cast to support the badly damaged seaward side of the House, and the new walls which replaced those already reduced to rubble. Faithful men took weeks or even months off of work to use their skills in completing the restoration. Electricians, Plumbers, Builders, Carpenters and a qualified Clerk of the Works all contributed according to their individual skills and expertise, and it is thanks to their commitment that the Beach House is still functioning today. The condition the house is still in today testifies to the quality of the work they so unstintingly put into the job, in their desire to give God nothing but the best

The Beach House today offers accommodation to around twenty-five people, depending on individual requirements. It also has a Lecture room that can accommodate twenty-five to thirty people, as well as secure parking and a Beach Terrace. It accepts anything from single guests to medium sized teams in mainly twin-bedded rooms furnished as a family home. This is because effectively that is what it is, a family home with an extended ministry of hospitality to the Body of Christ. Everyone who stays to the Beach House is a welcome guests of Pastor Anacleto and Carmelia Ferráo, who are also the Pastors of the large Assemblies of God (African) Church in the centre of the city. Their heart is to continue the work that Ron and Dorothy started, and maintain the Beach House as a safe and comfortable place where the people of God can find rest and refreshment.

Jeff and Helen are living and working with Anacleto and Carmelia at the Beach House, helping to act as hosts to the guests and assist with the necessary administration for such a large house. Their duties include, taking bookings, receiving guests, allocating rooms and general housekeeping management. In addition, they do what of the household maintenance falls within their wide scope of practical experience, and advise Anacleto and Carmelia on what might help to produce that blend of African and Western culture that will continue to ensure all their guest fell at home in the Beach House.

In a Mozambican home visitors are a sacred trust, and every visitor to the Beach House can expect to be given a warm welcome no matter how long their visit lasts. Guest are invited to use the house as though it were their own home, and to facilitate this they are provided with a large comfortable lounge and a kitchenette in which they can prepare drinks and snacks etc, between meals. There is also a terrace area to the rear of the house with views across the beautiful white sands of Beira’s beach. The beach area directly behind the Beach House is used mainly for fishing, using traditional dug-out wooden canoes. This provides visitors with colourful, interesting and photogenic scenes at different times of the day, as the shifting tides determine when the nets are set and when the catch is landed.
